Post AP Exam - Never Again!

I'm going to preface this post by saying that I typed out the draft for this assignment and never posted it until now so there's like a 110% chance that I'm not going to get credit for this but that's fine (not really but what can you do??). This exam made me wanna cry. And that's not an exaggeration. By the time I got to the fifth question I felt like bawling (I didn't though because I was in a room of over a hundred people). While I felt well prepared because of all of the practice we did in class, I still felt anxious. The exam was harder than I thought it would be. I found the passages boring, especially the 19th century one, and hard to understand. I'm not sure if I had any successes. To be honest, the only thing I think I did successfully was fill in the bubbles on my Scantron. I kept second guessing my answers on the multiple choice. While I was writing my essays, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was making copious spelling and grammar erro...

I Didn't Drown This Time

The second day of our vacation in Barbados, I told my mother that I didn't want to leave an air conditioned house to go to the non-air conditioned outdoors. So of course,  we had to take a ride to the beach. Sweat was running down my back like a waterfall (gross, I know) as I stepped out of the car and into the sun. It was incredibly bright and strong, and reminded me of that Madonna song that goes:"The sun would set so high, ring through my ears and sting my eyes..." I think if I had taken the neon green sunglasses I was wearing off, I'd probably be blinded its rays. The moment my foot hit the ground, I could feel it sinking into the burning hot sand. The sand felt like fire under my feet and the fact that I had on an old, frayed, and worn-out pair of Keds didn't help. The soles were so thin that I might as well have been walking barefoot. Despite the numerous amount of trees in the sand, there wasn't any shade. The sound of birds chirping and waves surrounde...

I Hope This Paper is Instagram-matically Correct

In recent years, the saying “The world at your fingertips” has taken on an almost literal meaning. With the spread of social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram, people are able to interact with each other more. A social networking site (a.k.a social networking service or social media) is an online platform used by people to have social relations with others who share common career or personal interests, backgrounds, or real life relationships. These sites are beneficial because they allow us to obtain information about anything and connect with anyone we want. Because of this, s ocial networking sites are more helpful than harmful. One reason is because they create opportunities. This is evident in the case of Youtube - a video sharing website. It’s likely that everyone has seen a Youtube video - whether it was shown to them by a friend or something they couldn’t avoid seeing because it went viral. Users of Youtube can create original content and uplo...

Is David Sedaris Fluent in French Now?

Analysis In Me Talk Pretty One Day, David Sedaris, an acclaimed writer and comic, discusses how learning a new language in a new country can be difficult and frightening. Sedaris explains his struggle to learn French when he moved to Paris, with the use of hyperbole and imagery. He uses the former throughout the text to describe his trouble learning the language. At one point in the text, Sedaris says "Learning French is a lot like joining a gang in that it involves a long and intensive period of hazing. And it wasn't just my teacher, the entire population seemed to be in on it (22)." This is a very obvious hyperbole. He exaggerates how hard it is to learn French by likening it to something as violent as being hazed by a gang. He also says "Her reaction [to his mispronunciation and assignment of the wrong gender to some French words] led me to believe that these mistakes were capital crimes in the country." Evidently, Sedaris is just magnifying his feelings...

That Bunny Is Not For Science

Would you rather be involved in a test where you had to inhale toxic fumes or be injected with a cancer inducing substance? A test where you were restrained while chemicals were placed into your eyes or in a patch of shaved skin? Fortunately, people will never have to choose between these things. In fact, we are lucky to have the ability to choose at all. But unlike us, animals do not have this ability. Just like us, animals are living, thinking, and feeling creatures. They sit in pain as they wait for the next excruciatingly painful test to be performed on them. According to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), over 100 million animals die in the U.S. because of cruel cosmetic, drug, chemical, or food tests by different companies. Some that test their products on animals are: L'Oréal, Head and Shoulders, Estée Lauder , and Pantene. Furthermore, PETA states that some of these animals are domesticated e.g. dogs, cats, guinea pigs...
